Toyota Sold More Prius C in Three Days than the Volt and Leaf Combined in a Month

According to Toyota, the newest member of its Prius family of hybrids, the Yaris-sized Prius C, is off to an extremely good start since going on sale in the States on March 12. In its first three days on the market, the Prius C sold 1,201 units, with Toyota making it a point to note that it surpassed the combined sales of the Chevrolet Volt and Nissan Leaf for the entire month of February. In other related news, our local grocery disclosed that it sold more apples in an hour than Prius C in a day.
Needless to say, the name of the PR game is to make your accomplishments appear bigger than what they really are while seriously downplaying your failures.
It would be more appropriate for Toyota to wait to compare the sales of its plug-in Prius, which is closer in price and to a certain extent, in philosophy (it only does 15 miles in EV mode) to Nissan's all-electric Leaf and GM's extended range Chevrolet Volt.

“A number of factors drive the auto market, and fuel prices is one of them,” said Bob Carter, group vice president and general manager of the Toyota Division. “With 53 miles-per-gallon in the city and priced under $19,000, the timing for Prius c couldn’t be better.”

Toyota EU Economy and Emission Figures for Prius Plug-in Hybrid

The official European CO2 emissions and fuel economy numbers for the new Prius Plug-in Hybrid are in. According to Toyota, with the use of the battery, the plug-in hybrid model will be able to travel 134.5 miles on one imperial gallon of petrol (equal to 112mpg US or 2.1lt/100km) and emit just 49g/km of CO2 on the combined driving cycle.
Once the battery is depleted and the car switches into HV mode, it delivers a fuel economy of 76.4mpg UK (63.6mpg US or 3.7lt/100km) and CO2 emissions of 85g/km.
The Japanese carmaker added that the plug-in Prius returns a total driving range of 769 miles or 1,237 kilometers.
The battery can be fully recharged in 90 minutes using a conventional plug and offers a pure EV driving range of up to 15.5 miles or 25 kilometers. The addition of the plug-in system does not come at the expense of the packaging with the car continuing to offer the same space for passengers and their luggage (443 liters) as the regular Prius.
Sales in Britain will start this summer with prices to begin under £30,000 OTR, inclusive of the UK government’s Plug-in Car Grant.

New Toyota Prius V Minivan Sales Off to a Good Start in the States

With the presentation of the Prius V minivan last year, Toyota effectively gave birth to a new sub-brand of models borrowing the name of its first hybrid vehicle. The move has proved to be successful with Toyota revealing that it sold 8,399 units of the Prius V from the last week of October (that's when it arrived in dealerships across the States) through the end of December 2011, according to Carly Schaffner, a spokesperson for the automaker.
Toyota says that it plans to deliver more than 220,000 vehicles bearing the Prius nameplate this year in the United States alone, which represents a 60 percent increase over 2011, according to a report from Bloomberg News.
Along with the original Prius liftback and the Prius V minivan, Toyota will launch the Prius C subcompact hatchback that we saw in Detroit this month and which arrives in March with a starting price of under US$19,000, plus a plug-in hybrid version of the Prius liftback priced at $32,760 that offers an extended electric-only driving range of up to 15 miles.
