BMW Brings M Performance Parts for New 3-Series and 5-Series Sedans

Like all carmakers or any other company for that matter, BMW would like to be the one that customers go to when it comes to aftermarket products. While the Bavarian automaker has been offering Performance Parts for years, we will now come to know the components under the M Performance Parts brand name. Today, BMW announced the availability of a new lineup of M Performance Parts for the latest 2012 3-Series and 2011-2012 5-Series sedans in the U.S. market. The range comprises chassis, aerodynamic, cockpit and powertrain components.
Starting with the wheels, the M Performance Parts catalogue includes 20-inch forged alloy rims for the latest 3-Series and 5-Series models, which the company says are 1kg (2.4 pounds) lighter per wheel than the same size standard wheel.
To improve braking performance, there is a Brembo big-brake kit with painted calipers in red, yellow or orange, and sports brake discs measuring 370 x 30 mm on the front axle and 345 x 24 mm on the rear axle.
For the six-cylinder turbocharged 335i and 535i sedans, BMW offers a sports exhaust system complete with two chrome-plated 80 mm tailpipes.
On the outside, the M Performance Parts catalogue includes high-gloss black kidney grilles and carbon fiber mirror caps for both the 3- and 5-Series models, racing stripes for the 3-Series, and a carbon fiber rear deck lid spoiler for the 5 Series sedan.
There is a variety of interior goodies such as a flat-bottom, motorsports-inspired, Alcantara steering wheel for the 3-Series, a seven piece carbon fiber and Alcantara interior trim set for both sedans, and a carbon fiber gear shift knob and selector lever for vehicles with manual or automatic transmissions.
BMW notes that all parts come with a factory warranty.

New BMW M550d xDrive Sedan with Photos

One of the models that BMW will reveal at the 2012 edition if the Geneva Motor Show next week is the M550d xDrive, the 5-Series based model of the M Performance Automobiles sub-brand that also make its premiere at the same event. As is common practice these days, the “550” badge doesn't reveal the engine’s capacity as it used to. The M550d is powered by BMW’s new 3.0-liter inline-six diesel that features no less than three turbochargers, including two smaller and a larger unit.
The numbers speak for themselves: 381HP, 740Nm (546 lb-ft) of torque at just 2,000 rpm are more than adequate for a 4.7 seconds sprint from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) – just 0.3 seconds slower than the M5.
Being a diesel, the performance and the standard four-wheel drive system of the M550d do not come with a large penalty at the pumps, as the sedan's average fuel consumption is just 6.3 lt/100 km (37.3 mpg US).
Following an earlier announcement, today the Munich-based company published the first non-studio shots of the M550d xDrive.
The humongous on-location gallery includes 98 images, which you can check out for yourself right after the break.
