Lamborghini’s Urus Concept is a 600HP SUV Aiming for the Top of its Class

Even though a four-door sports saloon is much closer to a supercar maker's philosophy than an SUV, Lamborghini wants to test the waters with a four-seat crossover model. The VW Group-owned company’s second SUV after the 1980’s butch LM002, was unveiled today at the 2012 China Auto Show in the form of the Urus concept. We have already seen the photos of the crossover, but now have the full specifications on the concept that the company describes as being “a true Lamborghini”.
As is the tradition, the SUV's name is derived from the world of bulls. The Urus, also known as Aurochs, is one of the wild ancestors of domestic cattle. According to the Italian automaker, the Spanish fighting bull, as bred for the past 500 years, is still very close to the Urus in its appearance.
At 4.99 m long (196.5 inches), 1.99 m (78.4 inches) wide and 1.66m (65.4 inches) tall, the Urus is about 120mm longer and 16mm wider but also 30mm lower than a BMW X6.
Lamborghini has not yet specified the front-mounted engine, but it says it will have an output of 600HP and the lowest CO2 emissions in its class. Chances are a production model would be fitted with either a V10 or Audi's new V8 turbo, perhaps even both. Either way, the engine transmits its power to both axles via a dual-clutch gearbox and permanent four-wheel drive transmission with traction control.
The Urus uses the same platform architecture as the Bentley EXP 9 F study and the next generations of the VW Touareg, Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q7.
According to the company, the class-leading CO2 emissions target will be achieved thanks to the lightweight design philosophy not only in the chassis and bodywork, but the interior as well, through the use of what Lamborghini calls “innovative” carbon fiber technologies.
This offers the advantage of a low center of gravity, improving handling, another area where the Urus aims to beat its competitors. Since it’s an SUV, the off-roading part is taken care of not only by the AWD system but also by the variable height suspension and front spoiler and the good approach angle.
“The Urus is a very concrete idea for the future of Lamborghini – as a third model line and as the perfect complement to our super sports cars”, said Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Lamborghini. “SUVs stand for freedom and emotion. SUVs make up one of the most successful market segments worldwide. The Urus is the most extreme interpretation of the SUV idea; it is the Lamborghini of the SUVs.”
It’s also the first modern Lamborghini that seats four instead of just two passengers and can be used as a family’s sole car. This, of course, while true, is mostly pure PR talk, just like the claim of the Charging Bull having an SUV history. First, it’s highly unlikely that any Lamborghini-owning family has only one car, and second, the LM002 sold a mere 300 units in its six-year long lifespan.
The truth is that the Urus’ mission is twofold: the first part is to convince the company’s customers to park a Lamborghini rather than a Range Rover next to their Murcielago/Gallardo/Aventador in their garage.
The second part is to significantly increase Lamborghini’s production. The bean-counters at the VW Group estimate that the SUV, which is targeted mostly at the USA, United Kingdom, Germany, Russia, the Middle East and China, can reach annual sales of around 3,000 units.

Batman: New Lamborghini Ferruccio Design Study by Marc Hostler

In about 18 months from now, in October of 2013, Lamborghini will celebrate its Golden Jubilee. While we expect a fitting tribute from Lamborghini to mark the 50 years from the day Ferrucio Lamborghini launched the company that bears his name to challenge Ferrari, independent designers have already begun spinning their own tributes. The Lamborghini Feruccio concept pictured here is the work of Mark Hostler, a transportation design student at Staffordshire University.
Hostler's overly aggressive and hard-edged concept is said to blend the shapes and design details of various Lamborghini supercars from different eras.
These include the low windshield and read end design of the original Countach, the softer and more rounded front fenders of the Miura and the jet-fighter lines of the recent crop of Lamborghinis such as the Reventon and the Aventador LP700-4.
In Hostler's mind, a supercar like the Feruccio concept should combine tradition with modernity and as such, he designed it to be equipped with a 5.0-liter V12 engine featuring twin-turbochargers and a direct-injection system.
You can take a look at the photos and the video of the Lamborghini Feruccio concept right after the break.

Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 By Mansory

Making its world premiere at the 82nd Geneva International Auto Salon is Mansory's first attempt to tune the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4. The notorious German tuning firm's wild proposal includes both styling and performance upgrades. Mansory was never known for its subtleness and for better or for worse, its Lamborghini Aventador tune won't go by unnoticed.
The comprehensive body package sees the replacement of the front and rear fenders and the bonnet with new pieces that increase the car's width by 40mm up front and 50mm at the rear.
Furthermore, Mansory adds new side skirts, a different rear diffuser and an enlarged rear wing, while the roof and engine-compartment covers are trimmed in carbon-fibre elements.
The Aventador now rides on lightweight forged rims with carbon-fiber inlays sized 20-inches at the front and 21-inches at the back shod in tires 255/30 ZR20 and 345/25 ZR21 respectively.
The modifications continue with the interior that gains a new leather treatment for the seats and dashboard along with aluminum pedals and real carbon-fibre trim components.
Complementing the styling upgrades is a performance package that consists of an optimized ECU and a custom exhaust system that do their part to increase output from 700PS (691bhp) and 690Nm to 754PS (744bhp) at 8,300 rpm and 750Nm (553.1 lb-ft) at 6,000 rpm.
This allows for zero to 100km/h sprint time of 2.8 seconds (0.1 seconds faster than the regular model) and a slightly higher top speed of 355km/h (221mph).

New Lamborghini Aventador J Video

The most hardnosed Lamborghini in the company's history is also the rarest as only one will be made and sold to a very lucky buyer who will have to write a €2.1 million (US$2.77 million) cheque to the VW Group-owned automaker to the speedster model to his or her collection. Following the world premiere of the Aventador J at the Geneva Motor Show this week, Lamborghini has released another video of the V12 powered model called "The Making of" which you can enjoy right after the break.

Lamborghini Aventador J Speedster at Geneva Motor Show

It’s the weekend before the 2012 Geneva Motor Show and as such, some presentations are to be expected but the reveal we're about to tell you, wasn't planned for today, at least not officially. Somehow, the crew over at Czech website Autoforum got their hands on the Lamborghini's surprise Swiss debut, which is none other than the Aventador J. Coincidentally, the Sant'Agata automaker published an official teaser video of a car describe/named as "#Unica" a few hours back.
From what we were able learn, the Aventador J isn't a regular production model and should not be confused with the upcoming Aventador Roadster.

The Aventador J is an over-the-top speedster-like model that not only does away with the roof, but the windshield as well. Other modifications include an aggressive aero package that includes a front spoiler, side sills, rear diffuser and a rear wing, all finished in black that add an even more dramatic tone to the supercar's design.
It is believed that Lamborghini has further reduced the car's weight by stripping out the interior of any luxury amenities.
We still don't know of the Aventador J uses the same 691bhp (700PS) 6.5-liter V12 as the regular model or if Lamborghini's engineers have further honed the engine, but we guess it won't be long before we find out.

Supercars Crammed Together in a Swiss Showroom

Belinda Carlisle was right: Heaven is a place on earth. And we think we’ve just found it. The automotive heaven is located in Switzerland, in a showroom full of so many supercars that we lost track of the number. The place is packed with both modern and classic exotics. Lamborghini fans would be most delighted as there are quite a few Aventadors, many versions of the Gallardo, Murcielago and Diablo from standard models to racing cars, as well as three rare Miuras and an LM002 SUV.
If the raging bull is not your cup of tea, there are other supercars as well. Like a Ferrari 599, a Ford GT, a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG and a classic 300SL Gullwing, plus a road-legal version of the CLK GTR Le Mans racer.
You can watch the video of this incredible collection right after the jump.
